Abstract
Purpose: This study aimed at identifying various patterns of adaptation among elderly women who were diagnosed with mild cognitive impairment.

Methods: For this qualitative study, 10 elderly women who were diagnosed with MCI and either returned to normal cognition or stayed as MCI at one year follow up were recruited. Data were collected from January to March of 2011 through one-to-one in-depth interviews. Data analysis were guided by Strauss and Corbin¡¯s grounded theory data analysis method.

Results: The adaptation patterns to MCI diagnosis were classified as follows: Proactively taking care of myself, being selective for my care, being unconditionally positive.

Conclusion: This study served as basic data for developing a dementia-prevention program which allows the elderly to understand the value of life after being diagnosed with MCI and continue to enjoy healthy life.
